My name is Endang Wijaya. I am an English teacher based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I built this website because I got tired of spending more time preparing lessons than actually teaching them.
ESL Toolkit is not a startup. There is no team, no office, no investor. It is just me, a phone, and a genuine belief that teachers deserve better tools — for free.
How this started
If you have ever taught English, you know the routine. You plan a good lesson. Then you spend an hour in Word making a gap fill worksheet. Then you realise the song you chose has inappropriate lyrics in verse three. Then your bingo cards are all identical because you made them by hand. Then you are late to class.
I have been there more times than I can count. I was a real classroom teacher — not someone who designed tools from the outside looking in. I know what it feels like to need a ready-made activity in five minutes. I know how frustrating it is when the tools that exist are either too complicated, behind a paywall, or just not quite right for a language classroom.
So I started building my own. One tool at a time, solving one real problem at a time. The Gap Fill Maker came first because that was what I needed most. The rest followed from the same place — genuine classroom frustration turned into something useful.
What ESL Toolkit is
ESL Toolkit is a collection of 20 free classroom tools for English teachers. Every single tool is free, requires no login, needs no download, and works directly in your browser — on any device, including your phone.
The tools cover four areas: song and media activities, classroom games, classroom management, and speaking and writing activities. They were designed specifically for English language classrooms, not adapted from something else.
What ESL Toolkit is not
It is not perfect. Some tools are simpler than others. There will be bugs. There will be things that do not work exactly how you imagined. I am one person maintaining this in my spare time, and I am learning as I go.
It is also not finished. I have ideas for more tools, improvements to existing ones, and features that teachers have suggested. The site will keep growing as long as people find it useful.
Why it is free
Teachers already give a lot. Their time, their energy, sometimes their own money for classroom supplies. I did not want to add to that. The tools are free because that is what felt right.
The site is supported by small donations from teachers who find it useful and by advertising. If you have used a tool that saved you time, and you want to say thank you, there is a support page where you can buy me a coffee. But there is absolutely no pressure — using the tools is enough.
